DISMAL Survival Game - Alpha 0.1 - Kickstarter

Hi there!

My name is Gael Romanet, I am a French Video Game Visual Designer and Texture Artist living in London.

With this post I want to share my DISMAL Survival Game (currently Alpha Version) that I am designing as a single developer (for the time being).

DISMAL Survival Game is fully designed with Unreal Engine 4, and is inspired by Subsistence, Stranded Deep, and The Forest games.

My project has been accepted on kickstarter website. You can now back this project if you believe in it. There are some nice rewards doing so.

Game Story: DISMAL Survival Game is a first person, or third person, exploration survival experience. There are no zombies or cannibals. Only you, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster. Survive the cold, the rain, the snow, and the ocean storms. Manage your hunger, thirst and tiredness. Craft your raft and explore 10 main islands of 16 km 2 each. Craft your axe, your hammer, and build your shelter to survive. Start a fire to cook, to keep warm during the cold nights and winter seasons. Fish, harvest and gather resources. You have no idea how you ended here. You only have this Cross with you. Discover the Truth about yourself!

Road Map (Future implementations).

1 - Wildlife animals - (Bald Eagle, Cougar, Grizzly Bear, American Bison, Moose, Elk, Coyote, and Grey Wolf).

2 - Realistic seasons and weather conditions - (Wind and Cold, Rain, Snow, Thunderstorms and Ocean Storms).

3 - Better Crafting System and Menu Inventory System - (The ability to cut trees and flora, to break small stones, to build a fire and animal traps, to craft a raft to travel from island to island, to build an axe, a hammer, a bow and plenty of arrows).

4 - Management of shelter, hunger, thirst and tiredness - (You will need to craft special tier items. Water Collector, Furnace, Wood, Brick and Metal Stations, and a Bed to save and load your game progress).

5 - Better shelter demolition effects based on full gravity for re collectable resources.

This looks pretty cool though, best of luck. I think your goal is set pretty high though imho. Well I love Bears and that wildlife so try to get heavily detailed with them.

Also, this game belonged in Anything Else> Other Games section so I moved it there.

I am very involved with my DISMAL Survival project. I am sharing in this forum 16 screenshots in 4K that have been taken while playing the game (first person view).

The islands are designed in a way to always show beautiful views. If you look properly, you can see the crosshair.

I am very pleased to share here a fantastic news regarding game sound ambiences and musical collaboration with the extremely talented S.A. that worked as an orchestrator for The Long Dark video game, and as a composer for the following films - Heart of Clay (2017) - The Angel (Netflix’s 2018 thriller) -  Hidden Pacific (2019) - just to name a few.

Yes. D R O P P E D D E A DG A M E S is a virtual company designing video games.

This is nothing to do with the code of the website but with your internet speed. If your internet speed is "slow for 2020" then the background video will stop, exactly like on YouTube. So you might think the website doesn't even load half the time but this is because your internet connection is not good enough to stream the background video continuously.

The background video needs a high bandwidth to be streamed. Here in London this is fine, same in Paris, N.Y and L.A.

I did some improvement regarding loading time of the background video. The background video on the company website promoting Dismal Survival game should be 5.88 times faster to load now. I don't use a free website tool, I write the code using a .txt file that I change to .html. Website tools add unnecessary spaces everywhere.

My internet is one of the fastest ones in the country. 200+ mbps  The video never stopped or anything btw. Your website is just shit.
