Turok General Discussion / Re: Turok Timeline

I did a thing and made another one. Wasn't sure if it warranted a new thread, though. I present to you: an in-depth (and exhaustive?) timeline of events as they relate to Acclaim's Turok comics.

This thing cost me eight days and roughly four major headaches, so you better look at it, lol.

I played through this the other day, and I wanted to say good job! The atmosphere of maps 3 and 4 was amazing. Wouldn't have minded map 3 being longer if there were a just a bit fewer deadmen. :P  The lighting reminded me of what I've seen of Shadowman.

I also gotta say that I completely cheesed the third Sister fight by activating the door and then jumping back across the moat. I could shoot her and she could shoot at me, but she never moved and I could dodge, lol.

Turok General Discussion / Re: Ideas For New Turok Game by Nightdive?
« on: February 28, 2020, 09:48:28 PM »
Thread necro because I had an idea at work today.

One of the random things that seems to circulate through the internet when regular people discuss Turok is the fact that Joshua Fireseed had an uncle, Carl, who was the previous Turok (I dunno why this fact is so prevalent considering it's comic-exclusive and not brought up in the games at all, but I've seen it a bit).

So in the Acclaim comics, Carl becomes Turok when Joshua's dad disappears. But in the game continuity, his dad doesn't disappear; Joshua's parents were killed in a car crash when he like 15 or something.

So I say let's have a Turok game where you play as Carl that does one of two things: either

1. The car crash was a targeted hit by the Dinosoids to take out the Turok lineage, and Carl takes up the mantle for vengeance-related reasons (this assumes Carl is the younger brother like in the comics). Or

2. The crash was still a targeted hit by the Dinosoids but instead meant to demoralize Carl, who in this would already be the current Turok and would then go kill stuff for vengeance-related reasons (this assumes Carl is made the older brother and also that the Dinosoids are pretty stupid to think that this plan would work).

I imagine the player starting in Oklahoma City and having to fight Dinosoids to track down whoever/whatever would give direction to whichever part of the Lost Land the Dinosoids are currently inhabiting. The Dinosoids would be a large force, well-armed and  organized. It could even be the game version of the Amaranthine Accordance, so I guess kinda like the Sleg army but with more ridiculous sci-fi tech and an equal amount of religious fervor. Unfortunately for them, Carl dismantles their operations in a less-than-peaceful manner. Could maybe be an explanation as to why the Dinosoids so willingly join with the Primagen a few years later: they're not as strong as they used to be.

Included among whatever the weapons would be are the Timefire arrows. In the Lost Land, they work like regular arrows, but on Earth, they immediately transport the enemy to the Lost Land like in the comics. This rids the player of an immediate threat but has the potential to backfire on them at a later date in the Lost Land levels if they transport multiple enemies. Not sure how limited these arrows would be, because they're kinda OP but ??????

tl;dr
1. Play as Carl Fireseed, seeking vengeance against the Dinosoids that killed your family
2. Dinosoids are organized like the Sleg w/ crazy weapons
3. Levels both on Earth and in Lost Land
4. Fancy Timefire arrows that can permanently remove an enemy from an Earth level but deposits them in the Lost Land to fight later

I had initially taken the reference to selling weapons to Araissi to mean that they were also based in Araissi, but looking at it again, that's purely speculation on my part. The timeline has been updated to remove this. Thanks for the catch!

Heh, I kinda just guessed on her age. The strategy guide puts her at 14 when her father is killed, but that's it. It's very helpful, lol. Since the text doesn't use any language that implies a large amount of time passes (think decades), I decided that she's probably close to Joshua's age. Again, purely speculation, but I needed to put the entry somewhere. :V

Turok General Discussion / Turok Timelines

So I have no idea exactly how many people would even find this interesting, but a couple of weeks ago, I decided to do a thing. I present to you: an in-depth (and exhaustive?) timeline of events as they relate to the Turok video games.

https://turok.fandom.com/wiki/User_blog:Operative_lm/Turok_Timeline_-_Acclaim_Video_Games

I mentioned it in the opening paragraphs, but I'll repeat it here that this timeline only concerns the main, non-Game Boy video games and their officially published supplementary material. That's the manuals, strategy guides, and websites. Any bit of story from a magazine or gaming website, even if it was from a developer interview, was not considered for this project.

I'm willing to answer questions if anybody has them, lol. :V

EDIT 5/30/2020:
For those just joining us, a quote from a post down below:

Holy hell. I'm honestly surprised to see this after all these years. It looks like it was uploaded just a couple of months after I had stopped looking for it, too. :V  Thank you!

Oh god, I had been hoping that I could contribute something for this, but everything kept conspiring against me. Now I might actually be able to get it done in time.  :XD:
