If anyone has the recently released Turok 2 remaster, could you please upload a comparison video for us?

I'd also like to see gameplay of with the Bloom filter DISABLED, FOV set near the original's, playing with a controller and have motion blur disabled. Pretty much as close to the original PC / N64 versions.

I'd like to see how the new remaster performs compared to the original.

There's lots of video's already, probably someone will post here for you and you'll never get what you want. Just buy it already.  :o

Hey Duke64 - wassup ---

I wonder if you know what the different gametypes are? Whats the difference between ROK Match and Rok Mix? Last Turok Standing - Fragtag - and Team RoK.

Anybody know what gametypes mean. Is fragtag where one player is a monkey, that has to reach a target to change someone else into the monkey?

I never played Turok multiplayer before, I'm a nubbin'.  :-[

might be more fun to play on a team to even out the net protocol problems.

Hi AD,
there is network protocol problem and it's causing bad connections for everyone. Nightdive needs some networking expertise on this. They are working on it. Seems like there are a lot of rough edges on this game still. Last night I had a 2400 ping on a server. that is very very very bad. A playable ping should be under 100. A good ping would be under 40. A LocalAreaNetwork ping at home between your home computers should be between 0 - 10, depending on your setup. And of course I generalize those definitions.

I'm in California U.S.A. so if we connected over the internet and played on my machine, say Quake III Arena, I would expect you to get less than 200 ping. which would be difficult for you, but at least playable. I know I've played on servers in Japan and had less than 100 ping. And Russia has game servers too, I've played those and had fun and made kills no problems. And I do believe there were a lot of q3 gamers in OZ too back a few years ago and I played on some servers there too. Have I bored you to death yet?

In multiplayer online video games, MMOs, MMMORPGs, MMOFPSs and FPSs ping (not to be confused with frames per second) refers to the network latency between a player's computer (client), and either the game server or another client (i.e. peer). This could be reported quantitatively as an average time in milliseconds, or qualitatively as low ping or high ping. The latter usage is common among players of first-person shooter and real-time strategy games. Having a low ping is always desirable because lower latency provides smoother gameplay by allowing faster updates of game data.
Read the full definition here -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ping_(video_gaming)

Do you have q3 arena? We could try it and see. Also did you figure out that the backward slash ( \ ) key is the 'show scoreboard' key? shows your ping too.

It's coming up on 5 pm now in OZ maybe later tonight it's almost 11pm here now. I'll check back in an hour and see if you are home. I can fire up a q3a server in a heartbeat.  ::)

Nightdive needs to re-write the network protocols. We're Boned.

ROTFLMAO

Edit: I connected to a server in Australia just now playing q3a and my ping was a steady solid 198. and very playable.

This question is kind of going left field, but will Turok 1's editor be updated soon, and if so in what ways?
Yo Badger that's THE most important question  ;D
Editor for multiplayer. that would be a hop skip and jump away from co-op play.
it's a matter of assets that the engine will recognize. That would be the "ways" they could update it. Release an update that includes player start asset for more than one player. And we see jump pads in MP too now right, sappin cool, gimmie those jump pads. lol

I'm going to play Hive of the Mantids now - gg

- Control menu is the worse  i ve never seen
- weapons damage are totaly different than the old one
- maps are differents but same skins
- the tchat log is so small i can't read the messages of other players
- i dont find the console menu
- impossible to see who is playing into the servers on the menu before enter into a server
- missile laucher is totaly shitty, i dont understand how to kill someone with that
- nuclear weapon can kill even if you are away from the explosion, i dont know if it can kill the shooter
- impossible to follow a conversation cause we cant have any access to the console log, and the text appear during only 2 seconds

game is fast
textures are beautiful

WoW -=chirac31=- you have really great questions.  ??? I want to ask the same questions that chirac does.

except I know how to open the console. chirac go figure I found a good answer about the console on Steam. Steam is usually the last place to look for information, but this thread is pretty good http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2687020

About the 'control' menu, I think you are talking about the weapon selection, no menu. With the mouse wheel there are a lot of weapons to go through and it can be a pain in the a$$ so a player needs to use keybinds. So it would be nice to have a weapon selection menu besides the mouse wheel scroll, I guess. Then we have weapon damage inquiry and that can be in conjunction with rocket launcher having a bad targeting system. It's because the game was made for N64 and the whole game had bad targeting. Now they improved the weapon targeting of other weapons but RL is still bad. Could we improve it? short answer is yes. Long answer is that you don't REALLY need the rocket launcher, it's just a fluffy high damage + splash damage weapon anyway and only nubs kill with rocket launcher - where's my railgun! The Nuke weapon in real life kills indiscriminately and I think it should in the game also.

But, for multiplayer purposes we could use a control system (config.cfg) to disable certain weapons on server. The whole multiplayer side of T2 needs work. Server config settings information, I mean hey we need to be able to run a half way decent server, what settings can we use? The 'Steam' server setup is a bad joke by all standards. I am serving a match from a high end PC in 2017, not N64 -1998. There should be a dedicated server setting. Then chirac mentions 'see who is playing on a server', a server browser. Well that would be nice. Usually that is done by the fan community. All the best server browsers were created by students and then optimized by gamers on a as needed basis.

When can we get multiplayer map editor assets? If I can build my own maps and serve them to my friends on a dedicated server, and control weapon flow and match 'fairness' with my server settings, that would be the key. I know it takes manpower to make these things happen, so what if nightdive had a mapping and modding forum to get gamers to do a lot of the manhours of work for them. What about using Turok forums for this purpose? rotflmao. Because gamers are weak, especially young gamers. {thinkin'} public cannot 'git er done'. Alas johnnie ...

So then, re cap.
Weapon selection menu?
Changes to rocket launcher, nuke weapon, charge dart weapon damage to make them multiplayer friendly?
Defensive weapon for multiplayer against the cerebral bore? Make the bores destructible, shoot able by player being attacked?
Dedicated server menu (with weapon settings?)
Multiplayer map editor update - please - this one is doable.
Change or fix the network protocol to get better connection to multiplayer servers? Streamline gameplay if necessary?

While reading my preview - people must remember and I want to reiterate - Great Game Nightdive - Thank You.
Ok Ok there's my long winded approach to this thread. Thank You everyone who worked on the game. It's day 2 of re master so I am going to STFUandPlay!

L! 1st post welcome to Hell  :o

hahahaha, take me to jail, in the depths of hell.

So hey I'm on a break from playing right now since I just got it today. When I fired it up first time I played on Hardcore mode and made it through the first part of the first level. Hardcore skill is difficult. So I restarted from the beginning on Hard difficulty, and I've played through levels 1, 2, 4, and a little bit of level 3. The first two levels were not too difficult. I've recently played through them on the old PC version so I have some recent experience on these levels. Level 4 got tough, and I was considering restarting the game on normal setting. Level 4 has a easy boss thingy, giant eyeball at the end and that was easy, so go figure. I had to save the game often near the end of the level, in order to make it through. I was killed about 20 to 30 times in places were the game has you push through some enemies with low health and then rewards you after that with full health and ammo pickups being plentiful.

With that in mind, I am happy with the campaign. The new graphics rendering is working great for me and breaths new life into the low polygon world and character meshes. They appear better looking than I had expected and they have been adjusted for gameplay to be more difficult than the older version. In the old game, aiming at your attacker was off somewhat, targeting was jacked up and that made the game more difficult. With this one, targeting is more accurate and the enemies are harder to kill -- and -- they deal more damage than the old version. So that's a major upgrade from the original. The 'leapers' move faster and deal some serious damage. I don't think there are any (leapers) in the original PC version. I just played it and I don't remember them being in the game. Another thing is the levels have some minor level design changes. Overall they work great and if you didn't know the original layout, you will not be able to tell the difference as these changes are woven almost seamlessly into the original material. There's some minor climbing grapple thing that is new so Turok climbs up some edges of rocks. It's so subtle not like in Doom 2016 where he hangs off the edge of ledges and climbs up. But similar to that and not from the original Turok game.

I'll just end this note at this point because a lot of people here can add in their comments and observations. I'm happy with the purchase. The game is fun. For being more than 15 year old game, it still is very good example of what a first person shooter is supposed to be. But it is an old game and I do not think it should be considered in comparison to current releases, that have just way more actual content in the way of texture assets and direct X polish and engine special effects and such. It's fun and it's hard, and you can 'take the gun from my cold dead hand when I'm finished'.  ;D

There are bugs, and especially in the multiplayer network code. Nightdive will fix it, soon (I hope). I'm happy that Turok has been re-mastered and happy to have this game.
