Hi everyone I have an opportunity to directly ask someone from Night Dive some questions about the Turok 2 remake. Is there anything you can think of that you would like to ask?
So far these are the only questions I have

When will Turok 1 and 2 come to consoles? 
Exclamation marks are a great idea, who's idea and when did you decide to add them?
The game has been cleaned up so nicely it is hard to know if some of the things I find are new or I just couldn't see them before because of the fog! Are there new items, secrets and areas like in the Turok 1 Remastered?
I got the sense that the enemies movement seems smother is that true or does it just look better becasue its now running at 60fps? 
My final question is are there any plans on a Turok 3 Remaster?!

- Control menu is the worse  i ve never seen
- weapons damage are totaly different than the old one
- maps are differents but same skins
- the tchat log is so small i can't read the messages of other players
- i dont find the console menu
- impossible to see who is playing into the servers on the menu before enter into a server
- missile laucher is totaly shitty, i dont understand how to kill someone with that
- nuclear weapon can kill even if you are away from the explosion, i dont know if it can kill the shooter
- impossible to follow a conversation cause we cant have any access to the console log, and the text appear during only 2 seconds

I'd like to know if Linux is still planned for either game, if I may.

Also, add Rage Wars to your Turok 3 question.  Actually, just expand it to be about the rest of the series in general.

except I know how to open the console. chirac go figure I found a good answer about the console on Steam. About the 'control' menu, I think you are talking about the weapon selection, no menu. With the mouse wheel there are a lot of weapons to go through and it can be a pain in the a$$ so a player needs to use keybinds. So it would be nice to have a weapon selection menu besides the mouse wheel scroll, I guess. Then we have weapon damage inquiry and that can be in conjunction with rocket launcher having a bad targeting system. It's because the game was made for N64 and the whole game had bad targeting. Now they improved the weapon targeting of other weapons but RL is still bad. Could we improve it? short answer is yes. Long answer is that you don't REALLY need the rocket launcher, it's just a fluffy high damage + splash damage weapon anyway and only nubs kill with rocket launcher - where's my railgun! The Nuke weapon in real life kills indiscriminately and I think it should in the game also.

But, for multiplayer purposes we could use a control system (config.cfg) to disable certain weapons on server. The whole multiplayer side of T2 needs work. Server config settings information, I mean hey we need to be able to run a half way decent server, what settings can we use? The 'Steam' server setup is a bad joke by all standards. I am serving a match from a high end PC in 2017, not N64 -1998. There should be a dedicated server setting. Then chirac mentions 'see who is playing on a server', a server browser. Well that would be nice. Usually that is done by the fan community. All the best server browsers were created by students and then optimized by gamers on a as needed basis.

When can we get multiplayer map editor assets? If I can build my own maps and serve them to my friends on a dedicated server, and control weapon flow and match 'fairness' with my server settings, that would be the key. I know it takes manpower to make these things happen, so what if nightdive had a mapping and modding forum to get gamers to do a lot of the manhours of work for them. What about using Turok forums for this purpose? rotflmao. Because gamers are weak, especially young gamers. {thinkin'} public cannot 'git er done'. Alas johnnie ...

I would love to see announcements for their next projects or ideas.  :)

I would ask them these questions:
-Will there be a workshop for Turok 2?
-Any updates or content that will be added in the future for T2 Remastered, bug fixes and etc?
-Plans on Rage Wars?
-Plans on remastering or remaking Turok: Evolution?
-Continuing the lost sequel to Turok '08?

- lags still here, and sometime its unplayable
- sometimes its impossible to join a server, ping? how to know?
- when i got the nuclear weapon activated its impossible to have new weapons is it normal?
- cerebral bore need to be nerf
- grenade launcher was better on the old turok 2, here its hard to see the grenade where it goes and predict his course.
- why the plasma was nerf?

no i talk about the controls menu "bindings menu", its not simple to name a shortcut to a move or a weapon.... its the worse i ve ever seen

my keyboard is different than  an english one, i dont have back button, if i want to write a back slash i have to push "alt gr"+ "8" buttons... so how to reinitialize the shortcuts if i have to push differents buttons....
thats why i say the binding menu is messy and not simple cause people who got differents keyboards cant reintialyze some shortcust

What I meant for workshop is perhaps something like the construction set that we saw in the remaster for Turok 1. With all the new mechanics of the second game it would be cool to see the creations by the community :D.

Editor for multiplayer. that would be a hop skip and jump away from co-op play.
it's a matter of assets that the engine will recognize. That would be the "ways" they could update it. Release an update that includes player start asset for more than one player. And we see jump pads in MP too now right, sappin cool, gimmie those jump pads. lol

about the pultiplayer and differents options to host a server, 
- put a ping limit to keep a good gameplay,
- choose weapons on and off ,
- select the map,
- select the type team rock match/ rock match/ arena
- choose the team color
- choose the players color
- put a frag limit and or  time limit, 
- and create a match
- put on or off the 10points/2points blue/gray cross
- observer option
- possibly to repop or not repop weapons

is it possible to add more players skins, and play with more turok 2 characters?


i play turok2 pc multiplayer since around more than 10 years, and we are a small community like me, lot of us were waiting  and are happy to see  for this remaster version, but it s very different and there is less options than the original one for the moment.
i try to make the old players come here to tell you all they are waiting for, about the multiplayer game.
i ve keep  some programs to host servers made by the community during all those years that i can share for the dev if it can help them just contact me here or on my turok forum.

-  rocets efects are bad;/ "too much efects" - and impossible to see anythink, same G. lancher

-no proper movement
- 2 guns should kill by one hit! Plazma and G. Lancher
- "2 times jump in air"
- a little bit faster
- chracters are too smal ;/
- nuke is too storng;/
-when you jump in the water should fall into it, do not float on it
-  why my ping is so hight and not only my? -  I play a lot of mp games and never had problems with that!!!
-  wher is ARENA MOD form pc version?!
-  you give us lot of new maps but you take 80% of old ;/ or they will be extra in shop ?


I play Turok multiplayer since 2008 every day ... I saw what you could do to avid fans and their small group was made for this game ... servers - when GameSpy fell, texture, bots! New mods to play "AWR" and lot more ...

is it possible to make defferents damages to each weapons also the parts of the corps shooted? example 100% damages if you shoot in the head with plasma, and 50% if you shhot in others parts of the corps

I agree. I'd be willing to bet that none of the people at Nightdive even looked at the original small community of people who play the PC's multiplayer to see what they like and dislike. They just sort've put it in at last minute without looking at the problems it arises with fair balance with the weapons *cough cough* the nuke *cough cough*.

But like I said before in my original post, maybe Nightdive will update the game with new content or fixes and maybe then multiplayer will be improved.  :)

The plasma rifle is actually 2 hits now to a healthy player. I have gog but I ran a split screen test with myself. The plasma rifle does 75 damage.

I'd also like to know if they plan on porting Rage Wars and Shadow of Oblivion to PC.   That would be super cool.

Another thing I'd like to know is if they plan any more official content for T1 and T2.  Map packs and that kind of thing.

Yes, this is best console ver of Turok 2, aka Rage Wars 2 and it's good game on own (my fav turok game is Rage Wars, btw). But we supported ND in hope that classic MP from pc, will reborn and get new life, try remaster proccess, to... And it still not happen, obvious, but we will wait and if no official ways, we will use remaster for base and mod it to look like 80-90 % max of old godly fun and competitive, oriented game play! To do that mod project, we will need help of many veterans and help of ND to (any1 else is welcome of course). Is about remix this game, toying with numbers/kex code to get: tall characters, real, fast, strafe and weapon dmg, firing speed changes. I'm so sad, cuz n64 got love and pc version got kick in you know where. I think there should be console and pc presents, in game menu. So you host and play how it suits you. So, point of this all is that T2 mp remaster will have limited life cycle, people will enjoy and go on other game, simple like that! To prevent that we need competitive part of old classic pc mp, where people earned frags, where you could get joy and adrenaline in frag, clans was made and people stayed for years. Yes, in old Turok 2 Mp, people stayed in for 15 years+, playing same maps! I myself, played it just during last 5 years, from 2012 y. I'm very happy and sad in same time, when i look on remaster (please free me that feeling...). Remaster is good game and all ingredients for fun are there, just not in shape that will be even, more enjoyable and adrenaline rewording. I not have anything to ask, ty. Just wished to share my observation, with you.

Chirac asked me to post here what I think about remaster. Well.. It all wouldn't be needed if you added to beta testers us - instense T2 PC Multiplayer fans who play this game for years. We asked you for this but u gave beta pass only for people who have played it long time ago on n64. Well played - I feel spat. Maybe my words are too strong - but thats what I feel - sorry :(
I will consider playing this version only if Plasma Riffle is one-shot killer (no matter what part of body it hits). You should add 2 types of weapons (n64 & PC) - eg. plasma from PC multi: one-shot killer with delay and no-auto shooting. And 2nd - n64 plasma: 2shot-killer with auto-shooting feature (Plasma works like this also in PC singleplayer. They changed some weapons specifically for multiplayer. And we asked you to include both - singleplayer and multiplayer weapons at least in level editor, so we could make our own specific gameplay oriented maps). We also asked multiplayer settings to be fully setable, so everyone can make his dream settings.

many things are fucked in this remaster multiplayer, and i understand you arent agree with us but we play the pc version since many years and its so different  here, its like if the devs havent any time to finish the multiplayer mod, or if they try to reinvented the multiplayer with a mix with the N64.

2- the shooter can't have any damages now even if he shoot his foot with grenade laucncher , missile laucher, nuclear weapon... totaly weird and why can't he die or suicide? no it isnt possible now

Hello im a little late to the party, but chirac, vis and mixa are saying the things the old players think. We all want a super fast, hard to master and "complicated" gameplay. More dynamic more hardcore.
Basically a vanilla mod for the new one and we would be happy. The most things are already stated by my mates but i wanna say:

-old physics, old movements
-we had "movement bugs". we dont need em all but it should be comparable.

Just like with the original game from 2002, this game will be added to and improved and smoothed out and made better. And Nightdive has given us the keys, to unlock the gameplay that we want. It is here now! But everything takes time. We have a new game, I am fukkin' happy about that.

Okay I see your point - we mainly use plasma. But don't tell me playing plasma is not skill based. Turok 2 is game of movement, it's not just random shooting. You can learn how to play against plasma players. As you can see in viedo below I'm not randomly spaming with plasma. It's not that easy to hit someone with plasma - you need good movement, not just aim. I could use other weapons - I just love plasma gameplay. And come on... Other weapons are way more "spam and pray" than plasma. Plasma is not a problem - just other weapons needs upgrade. Other weapons are also useful. I know players that are good with other weapons, and it's hard to use plasma against them. I agree that weapons should be more optimized but not at the cost of plasma. That's why we asked every aspect of multiplayer to be settable and that's why they should give beta pass to some regular T2 multi players so we could help them optimize all weapons without hurting plasma! Btw. It depends on servers settings, there are many possibilities to make other weapons more usefull: lower starting HP eg. 60, so plasma still can be one-shot killer, and it's easier to kill with other weapons, increased damage multiplier, lower pain limit, lower speed, etc.

what justify the cerabral bore is so powerfull now? the aime and the lock target is faster than ever and once you re lock you just have to die, nothing can save you... in the past game you just have to run far away of the shooter to stay alive, now you dont hav any chance to survice...
why the nuclear weapon dont kill the shooter if he shoot at his own feet, and same to the roket launcher and grenade laucher....

this is totally weird and no sense.

Hopefully I'm not too late to this party. Here are my questions:

1 ) What's wrong with the network experience? It's much worse than if I play the 1999 PC version on servers in Germany (I am in NY, USA)
2 ) Where did taunts go?
3 ) Why can't I type any special characters in chat?
4 ) Why can't I disable auto-switch to new weapon in multiplayer? The setting is there, but it doesn't work
5 ) Why can't I disable camera bobbing while strafing? My character always leans to the left or right on strafe
6 ) What is up with the menu? No default settings? Esc takes you back through every part of the menu you touched before exiting??
7 ) Why can't the multiplayer rules be customized?
8 ) Why are there no dedicated servers?
9 ) WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE NETWORK EXPERIENCE!?!?

I was vainly trying to get Evolution running on my PC last before resorting to Dolphin and the GC port.

Then I realised, Evolution could really do with an update too.

So, if it's not too late to ask I'd like to ask that:  Do they have any plans for an Evolution update?

Yeah hope its not to late. I want to ask Kaiser where Turok 2 would go on his list of difficulty developing? He has made a few games I want to say Turok 2 had to be really tough even with the Turok 1 engine already made. So. Where would Turok 2 fall in the list of games you worked on measured by difficulty? Maybe you can come up with a better way of asking it.

I second this question^^ I'm willing to bet Turok 2 is at the top as the toughest or right under Turok 1.

I would like to know how hard it was to do this what's the biggest difficulty you have come across in bringing back Turok 2?

I also hope some of these mp questions go through they have a valid point its not just complaining or bickering. I know this and I haven't played in a very long time. Just by seeing Vis videos I can see difference.

I am sad to say I received an email from Stephen Kick (CEO of Night Dive) shortly after sending the questions.

"due to the complexity of our licensing agreement we may not be able to answer your questions. If we do, we have to submit them for approval with the licensor which can be an arduous and time consuming task."

It's such a shame becasue he agreed to the answer the questions but changed his mind.
I guess if enough people request answers he might do something about it.

He's got his hands full at the moment, and I bet his business has increased since a week ago. This is a great thread because we can all see areas where the game needs improvement and maybe the 'modding community' can get a head start on the server .config settings and a 3rd party server browser and some things that people here might have experience with.

It might not be that he just decided not to, but that he realized that the submitted questions wouldn't pass approval. It's been seeming like NBC/Comcast (assuming they're who he's dealing with; they currently own the Turok IP) has been rather strict with the information that they want public. And if Night Dive answers non-approved questions, it could be seen as breach of contract and they could lose the license.

Man that's a real shame. I was hoping Nightdive would reach out towards the community and discuss the problems upon release and talk about improving the game in how the fans want it and etc.

I think it's funny that people talk about this game like it's a triple A title. Turok 2 is just another re mix of an old title with a small number of people to work on it. It will never have all the conveniences (bells and whistles) of studio built games that are being designed and built today. Nightdive has to sell like 50,000 copies of this game to break even. The fact that it's a showcase for a small studio is the WoW factor here. I hope they do it cause it's a great game.

I agree wholeheartedly... and I can't even get the game to run for more than half an hour at a time!

Knowing Kaiser's work for many years I have seen how much work he puts into his projects and how much he cares about the things he puts out.  I have no doubt that both remasters were created with the best of intentions and I can forgive a lot of bugs and even misteps.  I think a lot of other people could perhaps do the same. 

After all, it's not like these remasters wipe out the existence of the original games.  They merely sit side by side giving everyone more ways to play the series they love.

I'm sure the guys will fix a lot of the problems people have with the multiplayer but don't forget that the game has been built with modding in mind.  All the MP issues can be fixed in one way or another through time and by working together. :)

Personally, I'm just glad that the Turok series is getting a bit of time in the spotlight again. :)

is it possible to choose the server name we are hosting?
is it possible to change nickname?
is it possible to add limited ammo to the crossbow? indeed if we dont have anny ammo it force players to use warblade and not to do continue shooting with crossbow.
is it possible to make weapons dangerous for the howner to ? example roket launcher dont make any damages to the owner even if he shoot at his own feet, same to the grenade launcher, and nuclear weapon.

Morning chirac, Not yet! but eventually there will be dedicated server settings. I've seen 1 server that had custom settings and maybe the GoG release of multiplayer will have server setup, maybe I hope. Ah chirac! sv_forcebalanceteams Turok will have CTF someday.

I was super excited to see that the GOG release has been updated.  Sadly, there's still no MP server goodies but at least they're proving they're working on the game. :)

Steam is the place to go to be in contact with the devs they have a bugs thread and stuff like that I believe, even know I don't really know because I don't use steam like that. They wouldn't respond here because this is for fans not work and devs but I'm very sure they check here. Steam should be the place to go for the most chances to get a reply directly from devs I think.
