Wow feels like alot is going on today! First I would like to say welcome :D As for the subject that is awesome I would support it big time. Maybe it can turn into Turok :) but either way cool news and if its better then all the Jurassic Park games that are available that will be a good thing because I didnt enjoy them very much. There was one old Jurassic Park I liked I think it was on snes. After that it got to cinematic. But black hawk is action packed. Nice news :)

A quick primer - I've been in software development for nearly 20 years now, most of it in gaming. Among other projects, I was senior designer and associate director on Disney's TUROK 2008, mainly responsible for gameplay balance, dinosaur AI, marketing, etc. On Turok 2 (sadly canceled) those roles expanded to include weapon design and storyboarding. After T2 got the chop, I started running my own studio but always had the itch to scratch re: dinos. I've always loved them and wanted to create an IP that didn't deal with the existing restrictions of TUROK, but could share similar themes of survival, strength and redemption - but in present day. The title I came up with is called SAVAGE EMPIRE (and if you're an old school Origin fan you'll appreciate the callback!)
What it's all about:
A massive earthquake has shattered the West Coast, tearing a large swathe of California coastline free. At the quake's epicenter, pulsing energy portals appear - random gateways to another world. Through these portals, ancient creatures reclaim their territory, killing indiscriminately and acting as harbingers of an even more malevolent force in the Pacific.
This is the story of a group of wetworks operatives, sent into the zone to retrieve the technology that holds the key while acting as the reluctant handler for a man who specializes in finding those who don't want to be found.
A thrilling tale of extraordinary people and extraordinary odds, set against a backdrop of the ultimate apex predators - dinosaurs vs humanity!

Sounds like you have done a ton of thinking, planning, and work on this. I like the plot and idea sounds great. Its really nice to hear from the dev himself. Interesting photo you used on that support link. It looks like a Turok comic ;)

We wish you luck with this game I supported on the link and shared on my social medias to :) I read the story also and it is pretty clean and I actually have some images in my mind of what some of the areas would look like in the game. Images like inverted cracked streets with a pit to a volcanic area with flames. The dinosaurs portals/pods/eggs are down there. With the streets looking as if animals live here now with vines and moss across the buildings and nature life growing through the pavements.
Old school sense of action is a good idea have you seen or played Shadow Warrior 2013 and or the new Wolfenstein games? They are the latest games that did great on capturing the old school feel while still keeping it fresh and new.
Anyway, you got my interest look forward to seeing something like this I have big interest in dinosaurs to.

Daryl has worked on SSX, Shadows of Mordor, the Def Jam fighting series, plus he's done many covers for Dark Horse, Star Wars and Conan graphic novels. I'm really happy we found a way to work together again, especially considering he's just as big a dinosaur fan as I am!

So I hear the raptors could possibly hunt in packs ? That reminds me of a scene from the first Jurassic Park when he is scaring the kid hehe.
So may I ask what type of game this will be ? Open world survivor ? I have played a game called Primal Hunter and it is okay but a problem I have with it is its more survival then action and the dino AI isn't quite brilliant. I want to shoot and maybe explode a few dinos To like I AM TUROK. So question about weapons will we beable to carry more then two weapons? I like the old school games where you could have all weapons at once but you budget your ammo.
I also think a dino encounter should be scary. But lets not misinterpret fear from scared because you cant do anything about it. I like the idea of raptors breaking through glass and hunting in packs that will cause some fear to players but can we feel confident in our weaponry to fight back with them or must we result to hiding in a bush ?

hi Rok this Turok designer said that it's anew graphic novel first that we're going to help him get off the ground. Then when its successful he can make a game out of it.

I'm more concerned with a dinosaur title that put the terror of being surrounded by predators who can easily kill you, along with item/inventory management. Dino Crisis was great at keeping you on your toes, juggling health vs ammo (although not the hardcore extent I'd prefer, but anyways), bleeding out...
Addition of destructible environments so the dinosaurs can actually smash through windows and doors, necessitating the use of barricades. Someone suggested that you feel like you're constantly playing that raptor chase with the kids at the end of Jurassic Park. Raptors that actually hunt using pack AI (we were working heavily on this in T2) and attempt to outsmart you. The player should be absolutely terrified of them - wandering around a jungle environment, hearing the rustles in the grass as unseen creatures dash around me, and that slow groin-tightening realization that you are the one being hunted. Using any environmental element to help you escape.
Opportunities for exploration as well as interaction, Endless Ocean style. I've got more thoughts on this.

Well I already hit support I think it was the first day. Thats because I love dinosaurs and shooting games(Turok) Plus the image used is very comical which is my biggest hobby (Turok comics) I understand its a game in planning but I would like to know some more details on it. I do not go on neogaf or any forums because I find them to be a waste of time and they have jerks lurking everywhere. Before this forum I was pretty much non existent in any community. So I do not see any posts on other places. Thanks for adding a quote because I refuse to follow any forum links.
I just thought it was sounding similar to the Primal Hunter game. Which I hope its not because the game was fun but it just wasn't all the way there it made me feel a huge void from weapons to enemie AI and lack of dinosaurs.
If game does go through (it is at 82/100 supporters and I know I could add 5 more in one day) Will there be many many dinos or just a few?

while answering a couple of questions for you!
Types of Dinosaurs - I want to cover as many different types as possible. While developing Turok 2008, we were dealing with some teething issues on Unreal Engine 3 as it was very early in SDK development (that's the software development kit that Epic provides to Unreal licensees). Those issues were smoothed out eventually, but the amount of resources originally envisioned for creature models, rigging, animation, textures etc had to drop a bit. Mini-raptors (compys), velociraptors, diplos, allosaurus, various herbivores and of course the T-Rex made it in, but my game...if I get the support to push this project through...will cover a much larger swathe of dinosaurs,
Another quote I had regarding my approach to creature AI (one of my responsibilities at Propaganda)
You're both firmly aligned with the groundwork that was being done on creature AI, beyond the rudimentary version introduced in T1. An approximation of a working ecosystem, with pawns (what I'll refer to them as for now) motivated typical elements such as
- hunger
- team proximity (packs)
- threat proximity
- injuries
Far and beyond the typical see > chase > attack.
Figuring out how these stack together and feed into each other - and then visual demonstrating those stages in a clear manner - was one of the design tasks our team was tackling. What you're asking for is something that I wholeheartedly believe in. Implementing responsive AI also adds to replayability which is another central pillar of design for me.
This is where a more exploratory approach can pay dividends. There's little room for AI to flourish in a more linear gameplay type, but a wider, more open world approach now provides a sandbox where your character has the opportunity to create meaningful impact on the world beyond killing something.
Imagine your character is injured and bleeding, being tracked. You move slowly towards a drinking pond where herbivores are minding their business - to fulfill their need for water, not a pre-scripted event - doing your utmost not to spook them. Raptors burst through the trees and a stampede is triggered, damaging the pack and acting as a blind for your to dip underwater to lose the scent. You reappear on the other side of the water, only to realize that you're covered in leeches...
There was a rudimentary version of this in T1, where you could use the flare from the shotgun to drive dinosaur attention towards human enemies and then let them take each other out while you took advantage of the situation, either by sneaking past or picking off stragglers. This would be the next evolutionary step.

Thanks Adon made me laugh pretty hard at my own post lol. I just wanted to know a few more things about it but I dont want to click to neogaf because I dont even know what it is maybe I am living under a Rok ;) I wasnt upset though apoligize if it seemed that way.
What I wanted to know is answered now. That sounds really great I can image some more of what this is like. I like where you aim towards for the dino AI atleast you have big goals for such. Also does anyone know if his artist buddy from Turok is the one who is drawing these comic like pictures of it ? If so +rep to whoever it is.

I agree the art work is nice and thanks for including a special thanks to our forum here in that update tab, that is great and its nice because I watched this thing go up since 17 supporters I followed it and telling people to check it out. I have a small question about the game so do you plan for it to be an FPS game ? I never played Black Hawk Down before but I did google search it looks like it is an FPS but it doesn't really say anywhere if Savage Empire plans to be an FPS or not. I do like the name Savage Empire has a ring to it :)

Hmm that's a bummer for me :/ Still sounds like a cool game I am just curious anyway gives some thing else to talk about. Anyway if I ever do get some time to play games it will surely be Turok 2 Seed of Evil but maybe my kids can play this one :)

Being third person doesn't bother me because its a dino game and most of them are fps maybe a change will do some good. On another note I wouldn't mind a spin off Turok game being 3rd person either aslong as it was a spin off. But fps is still and alway will be my favorite. But does anyone know if there was any other dino game in 3rd person? I can't recall

Hey guys, like I mentioned earlier this Kickstarter is for the graphic novel first. If it's successful - and that's really depending on the support of the community - then I'll have the leverage to turn this into the dinosaur game that I've always wanted to build. Baby steps, though.

That's what I was confused about now I see. It is first a graphic novel then with proper continued support it could be a game. Sorry for not looking correctly. I am more interested myself in the novel because I hardly have anytime these days to play games but I would support the game also. Wow those new pictures look great! Am I the only one who thinks the girl in the bottom right almost resembles Danielle Fireseed? All she needs is some weapons and an attitude :) It is looking superb and I don't say that word but it fits here.

The new picture! Oh man my biggest interest is Turok comics dont get me wrong im not a huge comic fan boy. But Turok comics are something else!
This new drawing I like very much you just peaked my interest sir. I know its not Turok but its dinosaurs. The drawing is unique imho its not to much of a cartoon and it also has some realism. Im a huge fan of art like this it makes me highly interested.The shadows creasing through the window and expressions on the peoples faces are clean. Makes me want to draw it but I suck at drawing xD Now the storyline and the images together hey man very good job. I also thought it was mostly about a game I thought graphic novel meant a video game with a story. To me this is awesome especially how two of you guys have worked with Turok before.

Its good to see. This reminds me of the intro for primal rage! :D Where meteorites fall on earth, seperate into pieces making a new earth, and awaking old primeapes and dinos. is awesome you should try it.

I was thinking about things and Likes to Fight decided to join the forum and post here. Even know were not hefty in numbers he felt it was good. We show him and any spectators that we are about it because I believe we are. We dont just ramble like neogaf and such places no we want to get it done. Yes I am a raptor now and 3 badges on my name :) pretty cool.
But let me simplify this in dino terms.
Say you have a family of 5 Trex's vs 25 raptors even know raptor is my favorite Trex is going to destroy the pack of raptors.Though im not saying there is a competition its all the same blood in this situation I am glad others support it to. Me and Duke have been talking in email and made some things really clear. One thing was what I already said likes to fight decided to post here about it and we should support that to the full. Not because it could bring popularity or growth but out of respect and recognition. Not to mention whats being offered is pretty amazing. I want to see many more supporters on this. I might be one of the people most excited about this.

But it was still Turok guys. Its easily not the best one but hey I have respect for it. Plus the game was made at an unstable time in gaming mechanics and engines. To me this game is still a good one. The weapons, dinos, and levels were very Turok like. What I can say is these guys tried. Its obvious to see everyone else (game devs) dont have any balls for Turok. Plus I think the game is a bit under rated it got a little more hate then deserved. And atleast they wanted to fix up and repair these things in Turok 2 unfortunately they didn't get the chance for complete redemption.

Though these things are true I want to stick to the context of this thread. Last I checked it has 120/100 supporters I wish to see the number higher then that. I am much more concerned with Savage Empire as a novel then a video game. I think it could be pretty interesting coming from these guys. The images are already great and they are just small portions of what could be available later. Plus it seems to be one of two interesting things that involve the Turok media. Before this, Turokex, and some comic stuff the word Turok and media have grown near completely detached. So just to me any mention of it is a good thing.

Also looks like its doing great so far everything looks clean and good to me! Except for the youtube video, people on youtube are a waste of space full of negativity, hate, and jealousy. Never listen to them they are idiotic.

Yes whats the girls name hehe :D Yeah majority of people spending there time posting comments to youtube are more likely to be trolls and will leave a dislike on the way out now I don't mean all of them but yeah its quite a bit you can see it pretty much anywhere but no one cares but themselves and the people who are just like them hehe. Anyway yeah it seems to be doing pretty good actually do hope this thing reaches its goal.

Lobo was a good comic but I never really got deep into it because it was a bit on the darker side. Not against that just not my style like Turok comics. From the looks of the images looks to be quite different then logo but there is blood and dinos eating people :)

Hi everyone! Big update today. Jim Jimenez, the artist behind SAVAGE EMPIRE, wanted to bang out a new piece of artwork just for the campaign...and here it is!

What we wanted to show was the creative process behind coming up with concept art that respects the character and the reader. This piece in particular is of REYKA GRAY, the leader of the squad that is taking our mercenary friend REEVES into the earthquake zone. She has a lot on her plate, is incredibly focused and strong, yet has more layers to her.

He's providing a variant cover for my Kickstarter, so I wanted to include some of his prior work so you guys know what you'll be getting. As of today, that variant cover reward has been extended to ALL physical copies of the book, not just the $250 tier. So you can pledge at the $50 CDN tier (BET JURASSIC) and get the variant cover.
It's a Kickstarter-exclusive, btw. Once the campaign is over, any copies of the novel sold will have the regular cover, not the variant. So get on it!

And the cool thing is - we're not done! There are still two whole days left to push through more achievements and unlock more stuff. Like the live Twitch playthrough of Turok, or some great music written especially for Savage Empire.

That's great to hear! I'm over here still anticipating this project. I am a reader myself from time to time so yes I like to read and this still hits my interest peak. Thanks for getting back to us about the project here :) I did see the January update though it was a great picture of a raptor indeed.

The book is DONE. I'm going to prepress this week to get a printed copy in my hands for the final quality check before shipping to backers! Some folks in the Vancouver area asked for a personal pickup/drop-off and I'm going to be honouring those requests as well.
I hope those of you who chose to back this are happy with the results.

I sent out a couple of backer updates this week but thought I'd rattle the cage here as well in case people don't read their email :D
If you're a backer, I need you to contact me on KS via the project page with your address because WE'RE GOING TO PRINT!
My printer will be shipping the book directly to people so if I don't get a backer's address by the end of this weekend (07/02/2017) they won't receive the book in early August and will have to wait for the 2nd printing. Patience has finally paid off and I want to get this book into everyone's hands already!
So if you know someone who backed the project, please nudge them about checking their email (and spam filters) so they don't miss out on the 1st printing.

I just got my copy today! I got to say the artwork is stunning so far and though I have not read the whole thing yet the story picks up fast and starts going. Which is a good thing instead of dragging out a plot. Seems good so far with lots of characters and peaks good job. I peeked through the pages and I'll tell you there's a lot of Dinosaurs. Awesome! Hope its okay I share two pics in excitement.
